1.
Assume
that you do not have the right of way while crossing a street: be on the defensive even at crosswalks.
2.
Tipping.
Your check normally will not include the service. 10 to 15% of the total is recommended.
3.
Do
not use taxis to move within the hotel zone: you don’t really need them. Moving around the hotel zone is easy and cheap.
We recommend the 50 cents bus ride versus the $10 (or more) taxi.
4.
Cancun ocean currents are strong:
Do not swim away too far.
5.
Ocean
temperature is warm year round.
6.
Do
not hesitate to negotiate the taxi fare: it works! Agree on a fare before boarding the cab. Remember, in a negotiation, if
you can say no, you have the upper hand!
7.
Use
bio-degradable sunscreens: Help protect the corals and sea life.
8.
An
early morning walk on the beach before breakfast will be one of your day’s highlights: enjoy it!
9.
Do
not miss Chichen Itza: This is a world renown archeological
site. Discover the Maya culture.
10.
Lock
all you bags. Make sure to have your address tag and hotel name on all pieces.
11.
Cancun dress code is informal (even in business): Bermudas, sandals, poloshirts/teeshirts…bring in a light sweater
for night cruising, a dress or jacket for dining at a fancy restaurant.
12.
Do
not drink tap water even if purifed. You will find bottled water everywhere.
13.
A
waterproof disposable camera (with flash) is a good idea: Take her/his picture picture underwater, surrounded by fish while
snorkeling in the reefs: a great souvenir.
14.
Bring
with you at least 2 swimming suits if you can.
15.
Having
ice in all your drinks is ok.
16.
Need
to change money? You’ll get more at the bank.
17.
Cancun is “dolarized” and you can pay with dollars everywhere but not at the same exchange rate: watch it.
18.
Visit downtown Cancun and have lunch (2 to 4pm) at
“El Cejas” seafood restaurant: Enjoy the delicious shrimp soup (“caldo de camaron”) while listening
tropical marimba music.
19.
All
the restaurants do disinfect their salads: ask for your favorite Caesar’s salad with no fear.
20.
Go have dinner at Roots in the heart of downtown Cancun. The "only" jazzclub in town. We recommend you to arrive around 9:30
pm. and the live show starts at 10:30. International crowd including locals.
